Bernard Lallement
LANGUAGE : French
VOICES : SATB
PAGES : 3

  • Inserted by Jan Frans Willems in his collection of "Oude Vlaemsche Liederen" (Flemish songs old - traditional), published in 1848.
  • This music, whose melody is written in the Gregorian mode of D, according to the Credo of the Duplex Mass, is one of the most popular and ancient in Flanders and Brabant. In Bailleul, Halewyn is also called Abram: Halewyn, son of a king or a nobleman attracted by his song the most beautiful young girls ... to hang them.
  • The French adaptation reduced to seven, the original version of thirty-eight (!) Verses. The harmonization of Bernard Lallement plays with variations in tempi and melodic lines (melody sung by sopranos or basses) to better express the text.
