A short song from the opera TREEMONISHA published in 1911 and composed by Scott Joplin, the famous jazz and piano Ragtime composer.
TREEMONISHA is considered to be the first opera on the life of black slaves and servants in the southern states of the United States. This is why this piece for 4 male voices is subtitled "male quartet in cotton field". Its harmonies close to those of jazz make it a colorful and expressive partition similar to those found in negro spirituals.
